What’s Shaking – Issue 4

What’s Shaking

Newsletter of the SEiSMiC project

October 2015 | Online | Periodical

The fourth issue of What’s Shaking seizes on current events – specifically the current crisis of refugees fleeing war-ravaged countries in the Middle East for safe haven in Europe. The issue focuses on the SEiSMiC National Network in Sweden, where social innovation has provided solutions at the local level. One community came up with an innovative financing method for temporary housing, and other towns are following the example. Another example comes from charities that have used social media to speed up the delivery of food and urgently needed services. Along with these activities, Issue 4 covers a pop-up park in Stockholm, a project that uses temporarily vacant urban space for community projects, and a recent survey of academic research on social innovation.

The SEiSMiC project supports and adds a social dimension to JPI Urban Europe. It is funded by the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration, and is implemented with the participation of the REC's Smart Cities and Mobility Topic Area.
