REC, FAO sign Memorandum of Understanding

REC Executive Director Marta Szigeti Bonifert and Fernanda Guerrieri, Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia, confirmed their commitment to partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 8, 2012, as the REC kicked off its annual General Assembly Meeting in Szentendre, Hungary on a positive note. According to the FAO's Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (REU), the REC is "an essential partner ... in view of sharing common goals regarding environmental protection and sustainable development in Central and Eastern Europe."

The MoU entails cooperation between the two entities on a number of important topics, such as: biodiversity and sustainable use of natural resources, capacity building and educational tools, environmental impact assessments, environmental and climate change issues related to agriculture, environmental management, governance and law development and enforcement, and water management.
