European Report on WATER CRIMES published

October 24, 2017

The goal of the WATER CRIMES research project is to provide the first strategic analysis of crimes against water resources in Europe. While awareness of environmental crimes is gaining momentum at the international level, crimes against water are an emerging issue. Such crimes have significant impacts, although intelligence is scarce and information fragmented. The WATER CRIMES project aims to advance knowledge in this field through four main activities:

  • compiling an inventory of the various forms of crime that threaten water resources, water management, and related supply chains and infrastructure;
  • developing a mid-term outlook of crime trends;
  • analysing the potential impacts of water crimes in Europe; and
  • developing policy recommendations and mitigation strategies.

The first European Report on Water Crimes (downloadable below as a PDF document) summarises the main strategic outcomes of the project.
