Title: Greening Urban Food Consumption
CSO Contact: Ecologica and TERRA'S Organic Food Association
Amount: 35.000 EUR
Description:

Objectives:

  • To provide citizens in Zagreb and Subotica with healthier and fresher food produced and delivered in environmentally friendly manner;
  • To minimize environmental problems arising from food consumption and
  • To strengthen healthy city-hinterland relationships by linking organic farmers and consumers in the two cities.

Activities:

The project will last for 18 months and is divided into two phases: from July 1 to December 31, 2007 and from January 1 to December 31, 2008.
The activities of the first phase will consist of planning and preparation work, media promotion, transfer of knowledge from Croatia to Serbia and home delivery of “green eco-boxes”. During the second phase of the project the home delivery of the “green eco-boxes” will continue, and five workshops will be organised (two in Croatia and three in Serbia) for various target groups: consumers, students, organic farmers, local government representatives and journalists. Brochures, newsletters and a web page will be elaborated to enhance the project activities. The consumers will have the opportunity to meet the organic farmers during open-farm days. In order to promote organic farming as well as the home delivery system of “green eco-boxes”, a series of short radio broadcastings will be aired.

Expected outcomes:

  • Knowledge and experiences with “green eco boxes” will be transferred from Croatia to Serbia
  • “Green eco boxes” subscription system in Zagreb will be further improved and strengthened, and established in Subotica
  • Workshop participants will be trained on organic food and healthier eating habits
  • Brochures, newsletters, web page produces and information will be disseminated to consumers
  • Urban consumers will see the organic production methods directly on farms

Title: Eco-Schools Network
CSO Contact: Civil Association OXO and Danube Environmental Forum Amount: 34.560 EUR
Description:

Objectives:

  • To support 10 pilot primary schools in Macedonia and Serbia on environmental education initiatives and students’ participation in addressing environmental issues.
  • To support 10 pilot primary schools in identifying problems and to initiate actions aimed to increase efficient management of electricity, water and waste in the schools with the involvement of the local community.

Activities:

The project will last for 12 months: June 1, 2007 – May 31, 2008, during which the following activities are planned:

  • Designing and publishing educational materials: eco-school manual for teachers and students; school’s energy manual for teachers and students
  • Schools’ selection and project introduction in selected schools
  • Eco-schools training and action planning
  • Eco-schools support program (eco-clubs, environmental boards, schools’ code, energy efficiency educational campaigns)
  • Eco-schools experience exchange event
  • Projects’ lessons learned booklet produced

Expected outcomes:

  • Established at least 10 eco-schools in Macedonia and Serbia
  • Created, published and distributed Eco-Schools and Energy Manuals for teachers and students
  • Designed and delivered teacher training program for practical application of eco-schools methodology
  • Implemented schools’ campaigns aimed at increased efficiency in electricity, water and waste management
  • changes in awareness and attitude among teachers and students

Title: Balkan Ecovillage Network (BEN)- Sustainability in Practice
CSO Contact: Green Network of Activist Groups (GNAG), Center for Environment, Kneja
Amount:

30.836 EUR

Description:

Objectives:

The project aims to disseminate practical knowledge and skills for sustainable living in the region by achieving the following objectives:

  • to work on the implementation of sustainable solutions focusing on practical solutions for waste management, energy and climate change
  • to improve co-operation and networking in the region (focal point: Bosnia and Herzegovina)
  • to strengthen the initiatives for practical demonstration projects in the region
  • to produce educational materials about sustainability in practice for public use

Activities:

The project will last for 18 months and is divided into two phases: from June 1, 2007 to February 29 , 2008 and from March 1 to December 20, 2008.

The planned activities are the following:

1. Project start-up meeting of partners and stakeholders
2. Workshops on solar thermal water, composting bins (in Banja Luka and Sarajevo), and solar/wind/hybrid system (Cakovec)
3. Production of two booklets on energy and sustainable building
4. Practical demonstrations on solar thermal system and solar/wind hybrid system (Velika Gorica)
5. BEN’s executive body meeting
6. Production of two booklets on food and waste
7. Practical demonstrations on solar/wind hybrid system and two composting bins(Banja Luka, Sarajevo)
8. Training – Introduction in Permaculture – for partners, stakeholders and interested beneficiaries
9. Production of two booklets – water and BEN

Expected outcomes:

  • Installation of three solar/wind hybrid system for generating electricity on stakeholders’ estates and public buildings
  • Production and installation of three solar collectors for hot water system
  • Creation of four composting bins with worms for production of humus
  • Training course delivered (Introduction to permaculture)
  • Six educational brochures and booklets and continuing promotional activities through the website www.ekosela.org


Title: Regional Environmental Cohesion: Towards SEE Urban Sustainable Development Strategy
CSO Contact: Environmental Ambassadors, Biosfera, Centre for cultural and information development MOST, Centar Bez Granica, DIELLI - Sun of Liqenas, Konak
Amount: 49.880 EUR
Description:

Objectives:

  • Diffuse source pollution to be recognized by wider public
  • Increasing the awareness regarding current conditions and possible solutions in the urban environmental sector
  • Increase knowledge on implementation processes of global policies connected to EU accession
  • Increase political commitment for sustainable urban development
  • Environmental problems to be considered across different sectors
  • Recognition of global-regional-local linkages

Activities:

The project will last for 18 months. The planned activities are the following:
1. Assessment of the environmental urban sustainability issues and policies in each country/territory: every partner CSO will perform comparative analysis of problems and policy obligations (SD strategies, NEAP and similar relevant local policies).
2. Regional analysis on core issues of urban sustainability
3. Side-event at the “Environment for Europe” conference in Belgrade (October, 2007)
4. Building partnerships with defined stakeholders and wider public based on the outputs of Activity 2
5. Elaborating the regional assessment report on urban sustainability
6. Presentation and dissemination of the outreach document (assessment report)

Expected outcomes:

  • Country and regional analyses of the environmental urban sustainability and policies issues in the SEE region.
  • A draft report which will indicate a list of core priority urban sustainability issues in the target region. This will form the basis for the final output of the project, the regional assessment report “Regional Environmental Cohesion: Towards the SEE Urban Sustainable Development Strategy” and its inclusion as a reference for the future decisions on policies and investments. Presentation of the initiative in Beograd (EfE conference)

Title: Spreading the Green Phone Service
CSO Contact: Ecological Association PAN-KARLOVAC, Volunteer's center of Vojvodina and nature conservation movement, Environmental Association "Bura"
Amount: 35.001 EUR
Description:

Objectives:

  • Empowering environmental CSOs by developing skills in lobbying, advocacy, supporting public participation, developing successful means of communication with citizens, local authorities, inspections, business sector and media
  • Transfer of know-how on Green Phone Service (GPS)
  • Set-up of two Green Phone offices in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as in Serbia
  • Promoting the Green Phone Service in the region

Activities:

  • The project will last for 12 months (June 1, 2007 to May 31, 2008. The planned activities are the following:
  • Set-up meeting of project coordinators
  • Mapping for potential GPS in the region
  • Preparation and publication of educational handbook for new GPS
  • Preparation of workshop on the establishment of GPS and environment protection needs
  • Collecting data about public institutions and laws related to nature and environmental protection
  • Workshop on establishment of GPS and the educational handbook
  • Purchase of the necessary equipment for the GPS
  • Training for new GPS members in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Supporting and monitoring the newly established GPS
  • Press conference on the new service
  • Workshop on establishment of Green Phone Network, communication with media, cooperation with citizens, local authorities, inspections and business sector in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Collecting data and publishing the annual bulletin of GPS
  • Study visits to the Croatian GPS offices for CSO activists running the newly established GPS
  • Project evaluation

Expected outcomes:

  • Two GPS offices set up in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as in Serbia
  • Educational handbook published and promoted
  • GPS address book published and promoted
  • Developed CSO skills on lobbying, advocacy, communication with media, citizens, local authorities, inspections and business sector
