
The
SECTOR framework programme is helping environmental
civil society organisations (CSOs) from South Eastern Europe
(SEE) to perform their roles as important drivers of community development
in the field of environmental protection.
Purpose of the project
SECTOR’s goal is to promote the development
of a vibrant and democratic environmental
civil society within SEE countries and territories in an effort
to encourage society to move towards more sustainable development
and improved living conditions in urban areas.
Key programme factors
Management structure
A team with members from the REC’s NGO Support,
Information, Environemntal Law, Public Participation and Capacity
Building programmes — based at the head office in Szentendre,
Hungary — is coordinating the overall management of the regional
elements of the project. The REC country and field offices in Albania,
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of
Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia (including UN administered Kosovo)
are managing the key national components.
Project components
In the first phase of the programme an assessment
of environmental civil society organisations will be conducted
to formulate a clear picture of the state of environmental NGOs
in the target region. The development needs that are identified
through the assessment will then be addressed through the activities
falling under the other three core project components:
