Technical aspects of the REEEP travelling exhibition
Messages of the exhibition
The main messages of the
Power to Change exhibition are expressed in four separate stations:
I. Why change?
Renewable energy and energy efficiency is important for three
macro-conceptual reasons: energy security, climate change, and health
and development.
II. Options for change are available.
This station presents advanced renewable energy and energy
efficiency technologies that are commercially available and focuses
on their benefits.
III. Methods for change are ready to use.
The third station focuses on how to change. It presents regulatory
and financial instruments that can enable the spread of clean technologies.
IV. REEEP is accelerating the change.
The exhibition’s fourth and final stop focuses exclusively
on the REEEP partnership and its establishment as a global coalition
of governments, companies and non-governmental organisations working
to facilitate and accelerate the implementation of clean energy
practices.
The messages of the exhibition are presented through
a number of case studies and examples that are written for a general
audience and colourfully illustrated.
All the posters of the exhibition are available
for download here.
Stands
The 54 posters of the exhibition are displayed
on the pop-up structures (towers and arches). Setting up the stands
takes 15-20 minutes for one person and is quite simple. Gemma Russel
from the British Council in Vienna said: “It is really simple
to set up the stands. I started less than an hour ago and I am almost
finished.” This effort included five complete stands.
The full exhibition consists of six towers, six
arches and one straight stand. It is possible, however, to choose
from the materials for a smaller exhibit that fits in a tighter
space.
There are three types of stands used in the exhibition.

Pop-up arch
The illustration on the left shows the approximate
dimensions of an erected stand (190x50 cm). The stands are
220 cm tall. In total, six posters are placed onto the poster
stand with the help of magnetic stripes. Two posters fit on
the front, two on the back and one on each side. In this way
the posters wrap around the display, allowing visitors to
circle a stand, starting from either side. |
Pop-up tower
The pop-up tower is a column 64 cm in diameter.
These stands are 220 cm tall. Neon lamps light the stands
from the inside for increased visual appeal. |

Straight stand
The UK presidency poster and the poster with
the credits are placed on a straight stand. The illustration
on the left shows the approximate dimensions of an erected
stand (130x30 cm). The stand is 220 cm tall.
Instructions are provided as PDF files for
setting up the towers
and arches
(and the straight stand).

Layout of the exhibition materials
The
floor plan below shows how we set up the Power to Change exhibit
at the Natural History Museum in Budapest. We had a huge hall to
work with - 26x26 meters (676 m2). Such a large area is not needed
for the exhibit. For one corner you need 10-15 m2 (the stands occupy
a smaller area, but the visitors should have space top move around).
Depending on the room available you may decide to display only a
part of the exhibition. Click

Handouts
The following handouts are available together with
the exhibition (please order printed materials in advance):
1. Unfolding handout
maps where the four messages of the exhibition are summarised in
English (PDF - 301 KB);
2. Map of the
exhibition in Hungarian (PDF - 364 KB);
3. Translation cards
(ZIP - 354 KB). There are four A4 sheets, one for each corner, with
headings/images but without text. Translated text can be printed
by on office printer whenever necessary
For the preparation of the translation cards, the
following may be of use:
Other
handouts:
- REEEP
leaflet (PDF - 935 KB)
(please order printed copies in advance).
Stands for the handout cards and maps can be provided.
Additional information
At the Natural History Museum in Budapest we set
up working models of current technology. These models proved to
be of great interest to the visitors. For example, guests were invited
to ride a stationary, energy-generating bicycle that powered a radio,
lit a lamp, and boiled water. Only one of these models belonged
to the REEEP (a lantern that runs on solar charged batteries); the
others were brought in willingly by local NGOs and businesses. We
also rented a large projection screen to run a movie (Northsoutheastwest)
with an environmental theme provided by the British Council.
We designed two posters (A1-sized) advertising
the exhibition and erected them near the entrance to the museum:
poster 1 (PDF - 190
KB); poster 2
(PDF - 160 KB). A small
ad (PDF - 780 KB) and four
banners (ZIP - 1826 KB) was created and published in a Hungarian
cultural magazine. We are ready to share the files with you.
Press release prepared
for the launch of the exhibition in Hungary may be adapted for use
on other occasions.
The REEEP travelling exhibition is available for
borrowing. The receiver is responsible for covering the costs related
to the transportation of the exhibition materials.
