A new exhibit in Budapest colourfully illustrates the role that renewable energy and energy efficient technologies can play in alleviating the burden placed on society by our fossil-burning habits. The Power to Change will run from July 6-18, 2005 at the Museum of Natural History (Magyar Termeszettudomany Muzeum) in Budapest. Developed by the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) for the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), the exhibit features displays and models that illustrate the history, state of the art and need for renewable energy and energy efficient technologies. The Power to Change features functioning models, a timeline of technological advances, case studies of successful uptake and an introduction to REEEP, a partnership of governments, businesses and international organisations dedicated to accelerating the uptake of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies. The Museum of Natural History is located at Ludovika ter 6 in the 8th district, and is open every day but Tuesday from 10 am to 6 pm. The phone number is (36-1) 210-0085. The exhibit will coincide with the launch of the UK presidency of the European Union. REEEP was launched by the United Kingdom along with other partners at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002. It now has 130 partners, including 27 governments, committed to the REEEP mission. Visitors will also be able to preview a photographic exhibit entitled NorthSouthEastWest, which portrays the impacts of climate change and illustrates the tremendous opportunities to improve people’s lives while tackling climate change challenges. It will be shown in Szeged later this year. After July 18 the Power to Change exhibit will journey to other countries in the region before travelling the world.
