The region’s first
international media awards for “Excellence in Sustainable Energy
Reporting in Central and Eastern Europe”, sponsored by REEEP, were
presented during an official ceremony in Zagreb, Croatia, on March 17,
2008. The winners, Vaida Pilibaityte (Lithuanian National Radio), Atanas
Georgiev (Bulgarian Utilities Magazine), and Mladen Ilickovic (Croatian
Television), were presented with their awards by Pavel Antonov and Judit
Balint on behalf of the REEEP Regional Secretariat for CEE and Turkey,
Green Horizon Magazine, and the Guardian Foundation. Participants at the
jointly organised workshop, Promoting Renewable Energy in South Eastern
Europe through International Cooperation, also attended the official ceremony
together with several media representatives.
After the ceremony, discussions took place on the role
and importance of media for promoting, and properly communicating about,
renewable energies in countries of the region. The current situation of
renewables, as well as challenges faced in promoting renewable energy
and their potential solutions, were also debated.
