Regional REEEP Secretariat REEEP Media Award Winners

The first REEEP Media Awards for Excellence in Sustainable Energy Reporting in Central and Eastern Europe have been bestowed. The competition received applications from throughout CEE, including Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Croatia, Hungary and Latvia. The evaluation committee for the media award consisted of a mix of experts in different fields. Journalists with considerable experience in covering renewable energy and energy efficiency looked into the quality of journalism, structure and dynamics of the stories, and other journalistic aspects of the competition entries. Experts from the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership secretariat for CEE evaluated the quality of information regarding renewable energy and energy efficiency, and the impact of the entries. Each entry that passed the formal criteria was evaluated according to five criteria: relevance to the topic of the competition; quality of information presented; impact of the publication in the local context; quality of journalism; and general impression from the article. The winners are as follows: First Prize: Vaida Pilibaityte (co-writing with Mindaugas Nastaravicius) Lithuanian National Radio, for the report entitled „A New Nuclear Power Plant for Lithuania – Would it Really Pay Back?” (PDF - 77 KB) Second Prize: Atanas Georgiev, Bulgarian Utilities Magazine, for a series of articles published between August 2006 and February 2007 (ZIP - 5.6 MB) Mladen Ilickovic, Croatian Television, for the report entitled „Small Hydro Power Plants in Latvia and Croatia”, broadcast on December 4, 2006 Download the movie (WMV - 27 MB)   The awards will be distributed in a ceremony organised by the REC and REEEP.
