Environmental
Communication in the Information Society is an
upcoming symposium on environmental informatics to be hosted in Vienna,
Austria between Sept. 25-27, 2002. The conference will encompass
environmental information systems; environmental communication,
environmental themes; and applications and programmes. A request for papers
has been issued and abstracts are being invited until Feb.15, 2002.
A new Eurostat report entitled "Information
Society Statistics - Rapid Growth of Internet and Mobile Phone Usage in
Candidate Countries in 2000" has been released in early November.
The report can be downloaded free of charge.
Paris was the location for the recent HEAVEN
technical workshop hosted on 6th December. The workshop demonstrated the
HEAVEN decision support system and the potential it offers to urban
transport ministers. It is a new pan-European initiative that addresses a
common environmental problem: increasing traffic levels in large urban
areas.
The Electronic
Tools Task Force under the Aarhus
Convention has successfully fulfilled its mandate noted the recent
Preparatory Meeting of Parties. The online database of case
studies in the use of electronic tools for making information publicly
accessible and enhancing dialog will meanwhile continue to be updated.
