REC Country Office Network
Country Office Services

The REC Country Office Network implements the REC's mission by offering services to its constituents and donors, including:
  • Grants Giving: With established and tested procedures in place, REC Country Offices provide small and medium size grants support (up to EURO 10,000) to NGOs to assist their institutional development and their smaller scale projects. A wide range of NGO projects have been supported in all CEE countries, leading to increased NGO activity and to higher quality NGO projects.

  • Information Services: Through the Country Office Network, the REC is implementing the following environmental information dissemination activities:

    • Local language newsletters, providing coverage of important CEE environmental issues.
    • Country Office Web pages, linked with the REC's main Web page, presenting national environmental information in English and local languages.
    • Distribution of REC reports, calls for tender, directories and other publications.
    • Public access to environmental libraries at Country Offices.

  • Capacity Building Programmes: With its capacity to organise training on request and provide access to a network of skilled environmental trainers, the REC is implementing various training and capacity building projects such as:

    • Individual training to NGOs on how to propose, implement and account for projects.
    • Workshops, seminars and lectures organised by Country Offices to strengthen environmental knowledge and skills among each nation's environmental community.

  • Projects on Local, National and Regional Level: Skilled Country Office staff and access to in-country environmental experts enables the REC Country Offices to implement various kinds of environmental projects on the local, national and regional level. Projects are implemented under Country Office leadership and REC Head Office leadership, often in co-operation with project partners. Projects vary in size, scope and stakeholder group targeted.

  • Policy Advice: Given the expertise and international experience of the REC and its involvement in the developments of environmental policy in the region, Country Offices play a crucial role in providing policy advice to decision-makers on subjects such as the transition process, EU accession, sustainable development and regional environmental reconstruction in South Eastern Europe.

  • Networking/Facilitation: Because of their independent, objective and professional status, Country Offices are in a perfect position to network, facilitate and mediate between NGOs, governments and business.
