Background document for the REC's World Cafe at World Water Week 2016
The REC is attending this year's World Water Week and, with selected partners from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, will actively engage in and host a cluster of activities within the scope of the MENA Focus 2016. The REC will host three events: SIWI Sofa: Water Growth Stability Initiative (WGSIni); World Café 2016; and SIWI Sofa: Local Water Security Action Planning (LWSAP), as well as an exhibition stand.
The World Café at World Water Week 2016 brings together representatives of central and local governments, regional bodies, NGOs, academia and businesses from the region for lively discussions in a pleasant atmosphere, following up on the MENA Focus opening session themes. Participants at the event divided into three working groups. This paper is a background document for the World Café 2016. It comprises three articles prepared by experts to address the topics of the three working groups: Governing water for sustainable growth (Group 1); Water-related climate change mitigation and adaptation measures for sustainable growth (Group 2); and Water security action planning for sustainable growth (Group 3).
The paper was produced under the WATER SUM project, implemented by the REC and funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
