On January 1, 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at an historic UN summit, officially came into force. The REC, in pursuit of its mandate from the signatories to the Charter of the REC to assist the post-2015 global transformation process in the region, organised the “Regional Consultation on the Implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Central and Eastern Europe” in April 2016. This paper covers all the key points emerging from the discussions and makes both general and specific recommendations for consideration by the European Commission in its ongoing efforts to establish a framework for the EU-wide uptake and implementation of the SDGs.
