Capacity Building to Put the Aarhus Convention into Action and Support the Development of PRTR Systems in Selected South Eastern European Countries
January 2014 | Online | Website

Implemented between April 2011 and October 2013, the goals of this project were to improve the quality of participatory processes in environmental decision making; reduce barriers to access to justice; and support the ratification and implementation of the Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers (PRTR). The project website provides details about these three main project components and features background information about the implementation of the Aarhus Convention in SEE countries. It also makes available a number of related publications, including handbooks on public participation in environmental decision making published in Albanian, Bosnian, Macedonian and Montenegrin.

The project was implemented by the REC's Participatory Governance Topic Area and was supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
