The European Commission launched the Smart Cities and Communities Information System to provide interdisciplinary scientific expertise from relevant disciplines such as construction engineering, architecture, economics, urban and energy planning, information and communication technology, the monitoring of building and energy infrastructure performance, environment and social sciences.
The goal of the project is to support the EC's Directorate-General for Energy by monitoring and analysing EU co-financed demonstration projects in the fields of smart cities, sustainable energy districts and energy-efficient buildings with respect to EU energy and climate policy.
As the successor to the EC's three-year CONCERTO initiative (Energy Solutions for Smart Cities and Communities), and reinforcing synergies with the Smart Cities and Communities European Innovation Partnership, the SCIS will contribute to the EU's goals of enhancing energy efficiency and energy security, reducing CO2 emissions, and increasing the share of renewable energy.
The REC's tasks in the consortium primarily relate to disseminating project results through external events and multipliers, organising seminars for decision makers, and hosting the project's final conference.
