In light of the shortage of qualified consultants in the region able to provide professional environmental services, and especially full environment, health and safety, and social (EHSS) services, the project was implemented to build professional consulting capacity in the target countries. It addressed challenges related to conflicts between international standards and local laws and accepted procedures, business development and management approaches, recruiting, the development and maintenance of professional teams, and the quality control of products and services.

The overall objective of the project was to increase the EHSS capacities and competences of local environmental consultants in seven countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine.

The primary goal was to work collaboratively on challenging and specific issues arising in the implementation of EHSS international standards, and in consulting on EHSS issues for international organisations.

During the project, training courses on EHSS issues were designed and implemented in the seven participating countries in compliance with the requirements of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and other international financial institutions.

  • Development of a tailored training programme for EHSS consultants.
  • Implementation of seven one-week trainings on EHSS issues tailored to regional requirements.
  • Capacity building
  • Preparation of training programmes
  • Knowledge transfer
