New
face for European Eco-label
The
REC’s Publishing Department recently completed 247 brochures
in the 19 official languages of the European Union heralding the merits
of the EU’s Eco-label. A guide to greener shopping, the Eco-label
helps consumers to find products that are environmentally friendly
without compromising value or effectiveness.

Stakeholder
Dialogue on Sustainability
GE, in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce
and the REC, held a forum for key stakeholders to discuss challenges
in sustainable development. The forum is a new initiative of the business
sector in Central and Eastern Europe |
Establishment
of Euroregion Stara Planina
On June 20, 2006, a framework agreement was signed
in Sofia on the establishment of a Euroregion by the mayors of 11
municipalities from the region of West Stara Planina in Bulgaria and
Serbia. The municipalities include Belogradchik, Berkovitsa, Varshets,
Georgi Damianovo, Godech, Chiprovtsi and Chuprene in Bulgaria, and
Dimitrovgrad, Knjazevac, Pirot and Zajechar in Serbia. |
Macedonian
Green Pack on the way
On
May 15, 2006, Macedonian Minister of Environment and Physical Planning
Zoran Sapuric, Macedonian Minister of Education and Science Aziz Polozani,
Austrian Ambassador Filip Hojos, and Macedonian REC Country Office
Director Katarina Stojkovska signed a contract to implement the Green
Pack in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. |
Greenhouse
Gas Inventories Workshops
National
experts on greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories from 12 countries and
international experts participated in the sixth regional workshop,
organised at the REC in Szentendre, Hungary on May 10-12, 2006. The
workshop was organised within the framework of the project Capacity
Building for Improving the Quality of GHG Inventories. |
New environmental law partnership
The REC is partnering with the United Nations
Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and Pazmany Peter Catholic
University to conduct the Fellowship Programme on International and
Comparative Environmental Law, July 17 - August 4, 2006. Please consult

and information about the application process. |
Ministers
launch the REC's Romania's Nature programme
Showing up at a recycling centre in Romania and equipped
with reams of used paper and a minimum of five used PET bottles
are Minister of Environment and Water Management Sulfina Barbu and
Minister of Agriculture, Forests and Rural Development Gheorghe
Flutur.
