What was new in 2004

As this project nears completion, the updated website offers a wealth of information about online information networks in South Eastern Europe. Important new additions include a paper on network financing, a “cyber tea house” overview, training programmes, and detailed information about network activities. (January 5)

A survey of public transport in six cities of Central and Eastern Europe, Next Stop: Sustainable Transport presents case studies of public transport needs, development priorities, expert policy analysis, suggestions for sectoral integration and financing in Budapest, Bucharest, Sofia, Vilnius, Warsaw and Tallinn. On September 23, 2004, Interactive Farm opened in the village of Lukavica near Dimitrovgrad in Eastern Serbia. Interactive Farm will promote the values of Balkan agro-genetic resources and rural heritage, and support the sustainable development of marginalised rural areas in Serbia and Montenegro. United Nations Development Programme – Global Environment Facility (UNDP-GEF) support will go to 65 selected projects, involving over 70 non-governmental organisations, to the tune of almost USD 700,000. This granting programme — launched for NGOs working throughout the Danube watershed — aims to reduce pollution in the river from nutrient and toxic substances. (September 09)
