Gjakova municipality (Kosovo) will cooperate with the REC office in Kosovo for a new Local Biodiversity and Environmental Action Plan project. Gjakova is the first municipality in Kosovo funding the drafting of the Local Biodiversity Action Plan (LBAP) and updates the Local Environmental Action Plan (LEAP) with internal finance.
The Project Manager Avdullah Nishori emphasized that REC Kosovo is very glad to facilitate development of the LBAP and updating LEAP in Gjakova municipality and he expressed his gratitude to the Gjakova municipality for funding the project. He also mentioned that the municipality selected REC to cooperate on this tender based on good project proposal and proposed experts through a regular tender procedure for the implementation of the project.
Project has two components:
- The first component of the project is to reflect and identify the specific threats of habitats or species within the territory of the Municipality and propose the priority activities / actions to be undertaken with a view to preserving and restoring biodiversity and ecosystem services.
- The second component will address and identify the current environmental problems at the municipal level by updating the expired Local Environmental Action Plan and propose the new Local Environmental Action Plan.
REC project team has great experience in preparation of local action plans and so far, completed similar projects in 28 Kosovo municipalities. It`s commitment and professionalism are strong ground that the project will be implemented in time and successfully. With its previous experience, REC office in Kosovo proves that with professionalism and dedication is an important factor in facilitating LBAP and LEAPs for the benefit of environment health at local level. REC prepared local action plans in other countries including Albania, Bosnia, Turkey, Macedonia, Ukraine.
