REC participates in Arab Water Week 2017

Arab Water Week (AWW) is an international meeting that tackles water management issues in the MENA region by establishing innovative partnerships and platforms for collaborative work. The AWW facilitates the creation of new partnerships that complement and maximise the impact of ongoing work in this sector for the benefit of all countries in the region.

The REC took an active part in AWW 2017, held at the Dead Sea, Jordan, on March 19-21. Besides being the partner organisation, the REC hosted the session “Local Water Security Action Planning (LWSAP)” on March 21. Speakers at the session were Danko Aleksic (REC), Sameeh Al Nuimat (IUCN ROWA) and Sajeda Akel Al Rahife (Municipality of Al-Karak, Jordan). The session was chaired by Ida Wilhelmson of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). The session ended with positive comments from the audience regarding the presented methodology.

As the AWW provides a platform for greater coordination among the existing network of key stakeholders active in the water sector, the REC’s participation in the event greatly contributed to the visibility of the WATER SUM project, which the REC is implementing in the MENA region with the support of the Government of Sweden.
