A memorandum of cooperation was signed on February 9, 2017, at the Macedonian Museum of Natural History, which formally establishes a branch of the national institution in the Municipality of Dojran and also establishes the Dojran Lake Wildlife Museum, to be opened in Star Dojran.

Three parties signed the memorandum: the Macedonian Museum of Natural History; the Municipality of Dojran; and REC Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, which facilitated the arrangement of the Star Dojran museum with financial support from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF).

The Dojran Lake Wildlife Museum will offer attractive content presented in a modern way. Visitors will become intimately acquainted with the natural values of this natural monument. The museum makes a valuable contribution to municipal efforts to offer new and interactive travel-related and cultural content for all age groups. One section of the museum offers an impressive collection of flora and fauna from the Dojran Lake region, while the interactive section offers content for a complete and real experience of the lake's wildlife.

The purpose of the museum is to educate and raise public awareness about Dojran Lake wildlife and its dependence on water quality, as well as to contribute to ongoing protection efforts to establish the lake as a natural monument.
