Themis moves on to second project phase

Szentendre hosts Executive Committee meeting

DSCF6111_copyThe Executive Committee of the Themis Network met on February 20, 2015, in Szentendre, Hungary. The meeting was attended by representatives from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro and Serbia, as well as representatives from the General Police Directorate of Slovenia and from the Criminal Intelligence Service. The meeting was also attended by the Austrian Development Cooperation and the International Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement (INECE).

The meeting signalled the continuation of the Themis Network project, the second phase of which was launched in December 2014 in Vienna, Austria.

The Themis Secretariat presented a report on its activities during the last quarter of 2014. A training needs assessment was also presented, which clarified the most important topics to be covered in the participating countries: environmental crime, nature conservation, biodiversity protection, rural development, pollution control, transboundary problems, organisational development, ethics and transparency issues.

The Executive Committee also addressed the drafting of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the prevention, detection and investigation of environmental crimes. Participants were asked to collaborate with the network secretariat in the development of SOPs for their country within the framework of the Themis Network 2014-2017 work plan.

The meeting concluded with all committee members accepting the 2015 schedule of activities and providing relevant recommendations for its improvement.
