Civil Society Platform on Sustainable Consumption and Production Conference and Workshop

Szentendre, Hungary  on the 13-14 October 2008

The event will be organised by the UNEP/Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP), the Centre for Sustainable Design - University for the Creative Arts (CfSD) and the Regional Environmental Center (REC).
The Conference will be the first event of the EU FP-7 project named the Civil Society Platform on Sustainable Consumption and Production (DelibProcessSCP).

In Europe, SCP has recently risen on the agenda in the policy process. The renewed European Sustainable Development Strategy has placed SCP among the seven priority areas, next to climate change and clean energy, sustainable transport, conservation and management of natural resources, public health, social inclusion, demography and migration, and global poverty and sustainable development challenges. The strategy called for the European Commission to propose an EU SCP Action Plan, which was launched during the summer of 2008. The Action Plan should help to identify and overcome barriers for SCP, to ensure better coherence between the different related policy areas, to raise awareness among citizens and to change unsustainable consumption habits.
The Civil Society Platform on Sustainable Consumption and Production Conference and Workshop invites participants from organisations engaged with civil society to discuss three main impact areas (housing, food and drink, mobility) as domains for SCP and recommend options for policies and actions which respond to the needs of civil society.

The objectives of event are the following:

  • To enhance visibility of and launch the Civil Society Platform on SCP
  • To raise awareness regarding SCP among civil society organisations (CSOs)
  • To highlight the importance of SCP in EC's Sustainable Development Strategy and related initiatives
  • To start shaping the discussions for the forthcoming impact area Workshops on housing, food & drink and mobility

The Conference will take place in the Regional Environmental Center, Zero Emission Conference Center in Szentendre, Hungary. Address: 2000 Szentendre, Ady Endre u. 9- 11.
