This sub-regional workshop will focus on the Watershed Integrity Index, a tool that enables communities to characterise and assess risk factors to the biological and ecological integrity, health, resilience and sustainability of watersheds. The methodology addresses six vital watershed systems: hydrologic regulation, the regulation of water chemistry, sediment regulation, hydrological connectivity, temperature regulation and habitat provision, using spatial data and identified stressors. The tool will be used in the Drini River to identify management options at local, regional and international level. The workshop will provide an opportunity for nine local communities in Albania, Kosovo* and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to share lessons learnt and experiences on the implementation of pilot projects supported by the CRESSIDA project.
* This designation is without prejudice to positions on status, and is in line with UNSCR 1244 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence.
