The objectives of the capacity-building workshop for farmers' associations (GDAs) in Tunisia were to:

• build the capacities of GDA representatives;
• collect information from GDA representatives to verify and supplement existing data;
• share information and build capacities (e.g. financial and technical support to GDAs, budget and balance sheet elaboration and follow-up, billing and the collection of unpaid bills).

The target audience comprised GDAs and representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fishery. The workshop began with a general introduction and tour de table, followed by a presentation by ministry representative Mr. Abdelhamid Mnajja, who introduced the government’s strategy for GDAs. After the presentation, GDAs had the opportunity to raise questions and make comments about the strategy and other issues they currently face.

The workshop continued with presentations by Mr. Andras Kis and Mr. Moez Allaoui, starting with an introduction to water demand management concepts and international examples, and concluding with a discussion of the challenges faced by GDAs and the findings of the GDA data analysis.
