Action is required at all levels to mitigate and adapt to the threats presented by climate change. This study tour will showcase inspiring examples of how local governments, communities and businesses are benefitting from significant advantages by reducing their environmental impact and greenhouse gas emissions. The three-day programme in and around Berlin and Brandenburg will offer the opportunity to visit and talk with policymakers at the German environment ministry (BMUB), local government and community representatives about projects and initiatives to save energy, expand green spaces, increase green mobility, and create sustainable yet affordable housing. There will also be opportunities to meet local entrepreneurs working in smart, clean-tech sectors and citizen groups participating in the Energiewende.
- What are potential co-benefits of cutting emissions for local communities and economies?
- How can decentralised, renewable energy schemes revitalise rural areas?
- How do German media outlets and journalists view their role in the German and European energy transitions? What are the challenges of reporting on climate change?
