Regional Environmental Center (REC)

The "Training on Flood Prevention and Control Warning Systems" has been organised by the REC within the framework of the regional project Sustainable Use of Transboundary Water Resources and Water Security Management (WATER SUM).

The event is part of the WATER POrT (Water Resources Management Good Practices and Knowledge Transfer) project component's string of capacity-building activities aimed at strengthening the abilities of practitioners to deal with the impacts of climate change on the MENA region's water resources.

The objectives of the training are to:

  • increase the knowledge of water practitioners and enable a better understanding of effective flood prevention and control;
  • introduce the fundamentals of flood forecasting modelling and teach how to set up a flood forecasting model; and
  • provide an opportunity for participants to work with suggested modelling tools (i.e. software packages) and participate in an exercise at the Medjerda River Basin demonstration site.

For additional information about the activities and deliverables connected to water and climate change, please consult the WATER POrT leaflet.
