Goals and Objectives

The mandate of the Electronic Tools Task Force was approved at the first Meeting of Parties to the Aarhus Convention in Lucca, Italy on October 21-23, 2002. Draft Decision I/6 (MSDoc, 110 Kb) (Promoting the Use of Electronic and Other Information Tools) highlights the main goals of the Task Force, as follows:

  • Based on the work of the first Task Force, to complete the list of regional, subregional and national priorities;
  • To further act as an advisory body and an exchange mechanism for documenting and sharing best practices by facilitating case studies, training workshops and staff exchange both in traditional and electronic forms;
  • To prepare recommendations for the effective use of electronic information tools based on the expertise of the participants, priorities and best practice;
  • To continue to work as a capacity-building body by identifying and implementing the necessary measures, in cooperation with the capacity-building service and the clearing-house mechanism.
The Task Force will continue to accord attention interest to "content" and the nature of the environmental information being made available by public authorities, encouraging the availability of more meaningful, current or cross-cutting environmental information."
