ELECTRONIC TOOLS FOR THE AARHUS CONVENTION
The first Task Force workshop was hosted by the Ministry
of Environment of Norway in Arendal, Norway, March 8-9, 2001.
The event was organised by UNEP/GRID Arendal, and co-hosted
by Task Force Chair, the Federal Environment Agency of Austria.
The workshop presented and analysed:
- Case studies of successful practices and failures
- Emerging initiatives
- Problems and needs
in the use of electronic tools for reaching the goals of
the Aarhus Convention. Some 60 environmental information
professionals, policy makers, NGOs and IT experts from more
than 30 UNECE member countries attended the workshop, which
was streamed live via the Internet.
Workshop discussions focused on the priorities for electronic
tools and the challenges associated with their implementation,
and were facilitated by the presentation of good practices
in electronic access to environmental information and public
participation in decision making. All presentations have
been filed within a video
archive which is maintained by the workshop organisers.
The archive also includes Powerpoint and word versions,
the final agenda, and a complete list of participants.
The summary report
(MSWord, 117Kb) of the meeting's results was prepared
by the Task Force Chair, and forms a road map to the
future work of the Task Force. Comments
and Recommendations (MSWord, 14Kb) to the Task Force
from the NGO community (represented through European Eco-Forum)
are also available. A press statement
summarising the most important conclusions of the workshop
was released 16th March.
