Introduction
This Case Study Gallery presents a number of innovative
approaches in the use of electronic tools to implement
the Aarhus convention. You can search
by:
- article and paragraph of the Convention;
- country; or
- via a free text option (enabling you to search all
fields of all records by electronic tool, non-electronic
mechanisms and challenges/obstacles).
Through an online database, this Internet resource enables
you to explore and share in the electronic experiences
of other countries within the UNECE region. Case studies
have also been received from as far afield as Kenya, Australia
and the United States. Good practices are gathered from
all levels of public authorities (national, regional and
local), and in some instances are cross-sectoral and highlight
multi-stakeholder involvement. Recognising that not everyone
has access to electronic tools, the task force has included
several non-electronic alternatives as well.
We anticipate this resource to evolve over time and hope
it will assist in the implementation of electronic tools that
support compliance with the Aarhus Convention.
A standard template
(MSWord, 15 KB) has been used to gather information, and therefore
the format for each case study is identical. While the first
phase of funding for the support of the Technical Secretariat
was concluded on March 31st, good practice submissions are
still welcomed. The Technical Secretariat will continue to
maintain and with further financial support, expand the online
gallery after this date.
For online visitors with slow Internet access, a periodically
updated hard copy compendium is also available. To request
a copy of the compendium, and/or submit a case study via email,
please contact Jerome Simpson (JSimpson@rec.org)
with your request.
