Convention Article and Paragraph Priorities

Interest was greatest among countries in electronic tools that will assist in the dissemination of environmental information (under article 5 of the Convention).

Most popular were electronic media that will support the dissemination of:

  • the type and scope of environmental information held by public authorities;
  • lists/registers of environmental data and state of the environment information;
  • policies, plans and programmes; and
  • environmental progress reports.

Of lesser importance were electronic tools that could be used to facilitate public participation in specific projects under article 6, while other electronic mechanisms facilitating public involvement in the preparation of legal instruments and policies (article 7, 8) received almost no interest.

Regionally:

  • The NIS region showed a broad interest in all areas of the Convention;
  • The Central and East European and West European sub-regions showed greatest interest in article 5, and limited interest in Article 3 (information about the Aarhus Convention) and article 6.
  • No interest was shown from Central and East Europe and Western Europe in articles 7 and 8, nor article 9 on access to justice.
