Istvan Joo | Ministerial Commissioner for Water Diplomacy, Export and the Danube Region Strategy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary

Having graduated from the University of Debrecen, Hungary, as an agribusiness engineer with a specialisation in accounting and trade marketing, Istvan Joo worked for the European Parliament as an advisor, dealing mainly with environmental and EU budgetary issues. He subsequently worked as chief advisor to Hungary’s ambassador-at-large for energy security at the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before studying for an energy-related degree at Corvinus University Budapest. In 2014 he became ministerial commissioner responsible for the national coordination of the EU Danube Region Strategy, and chairs an inter-ministerial working group. At his initiative, Hungary will organise the sixth annual forum of the EU Danube Strategy in 2017, and he has also been tasked with the overall coordination of the Budapest Water Summit 2016.
