The workshop Promoting Renewable
Energy in South Eastern Europe through International Cooperation, which
was organised jointly by the REEEP Regional Secretariat for CEE and Turkey,
the Open University, and the Hrvoje Pozar Energy Institute, was held in
Zagreb, Croatia, on March 17–18, 2008, at the premises of the Hrvoje
Pozar Energy Institute.
During the workshop, ways to increase the share of renewables
in the energy mix in SEE countries through international cooperation were
discussed. Issues related to the adoption of and compliance with EU policies
and regulations, economic instruments, and financial support schemes were
also considered; experiences from countries of the region, as well as
from the UK, were shared; and possible solutions to common problems were
discussed.
The one-and-a-half-day workshop gathered a broad range
of stakeholder groups such as EC officials and government officials from
relevant ministries; the British Embassy; and representatives of energy
agencies, institutions, energy regulators, research institutes/universities,
renewable energy companies and RE investors.
