The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) is
a coalition of progressive governments, businesses and organisations
committed to accelerating the development of renewable and energy
efficiency systems.
In August 2004 the REC became the regional secretariat
of the REEEP for Central and Eastern Europe and Turkey.
What's New
Workshop
for Environmental and Social Housing
A one-day workshop on Environmental and Social Housing was
organised on February 25, 2008, in Budapest by the Environmentally
and Socially Aware Project and Business Development Company,
DVD Ltd., in cooperation with the REEEP Regional Secretariat
for CEE and Turkey, It was hosted by the Department of Environmental
Sciences & Policy of the Central European University.

Media Awards for “Excellence in Sustainable Energy Reporting
in Central and Eastern Europe”
The region’s first international
media awards for “Excellence in Sustainable Energy Reporting
in Central and Eastern Europe”, sponsored by REEEP,
were presented during an official ceremony in Zagreb, Croatia,
on March 17, 2008. The winners, Vaida Pilibaityte (Lithuanian
National Radio), Atanas Georgiev (Bulgarian Utilities Magazine),
and Mladen Ilickovic (Croatian Television), were presented
with their awards by Pavel Antonov and Judit Balint on behalf
of the REEEP Regional Secretariat for CEE and Turkey, Green
Horizon Magazine, and the Guardian Foundation. Participants
at the jointly organised workshop, Promoting Renewable Energy
in South Eastern Europe through International Cooperation,
also attended the official ceremony together with several
media representatives.

REEEP
Media Award winners have been designated
The first REEEP Media Awards
for Excellence in Sustainable Energy Reporting in Central
and Eastern Europe have been bestowed. The competition received
applications from throughout CEE, including Albania, Bulgaria,
Bosnia, Croatia, Hungary and Latvia. The evaluation committee
for the media award consisted of a mix of experts in different
fields. Journalists with considerable experience in covering
renewable energy and energy efficiency looked into the quality
of journalism, structure and dynamics of the stories, and
other journalistic aspects of the competition entries. Experts
from the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership
secretariat for CEE evaluated the quality of information regarding
renewable energy and energy efficiency, and the impact of
the entries.

Workshop
on Renewables Connection to the Network
With funding provided by the
REEEP Regional Secretariat and the U.S. Agency for International
Development (USAID), the Energy Regulators Regional Association
(ERRA) organised the Workshop on Renewables "Connection
to the Network" on October 3, in Zagreb, Croatia. See

REEEP
Regional Meeting for CEE&Turkey
The REEEP Regional Secretariat
for CEE&Turkey (RS) and its Steering Committee members,
director of REEEP International Secretariat and representatives
of various stakeholder groups came together to be updated
about the latest activities of the RS, to discuss the priorities
for projects on policy and regulation and financing of the
region for 2008/09, and to brainstorm about the RS potential
activities for the next year. See

Hungary
joins REEEP
The Hungarian government
officially joined the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
Partnership (REEEP) on September 24, 2007 during a signing
ceremony hosted by the UK Embassy, Budapest. The partnership
agreement was signed by Ministry of Economy and Transport
State Secretary Abel Garamhegyi, as official representative
of the Hungarian government, UK Ambassador HE John Nichols,
and Director of REEEP International Secretariat Marianne Moscoso-Osterkorn.
The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of ministries,
embassies, energy agencies, regulators, businesses, NGOs,
academia and the media.

ERRA
EU Integration Working Group, “Workshop on Distributed
Generation” 6th of July 2007, Budapest
ERRA, REEEP Regional Secretariat
for CEE and Turkey and REEEPs SERN (Sustainable Energy Regulators
Network) brought together CEE regulators and energy experts
from Austria, UK, CEE and Turkey in the “Distributed
Generation - DG” workshop. During the event, the participants
exchanged information and had discussions about connection
of Distributed Generation (DG) to the network in their countries,
together with regulations regarding DG, incentives for its
development, current technical and legislative problems, and
their possible solutions. Future trends for different renewable
energy sources and a comparison of their consistency for grid
connection has also been covered.

REEEP
Sixth Call for Proposals
REEEP is currently inviting proposals for
projects in renewable energy and energy efficiency and expects
to support 30 projects with an average of 100,000 euros. All
proposals need to respond to REEEP programme priorities articulated
at Annex A of the Call document, which is available to download
from the address given below. Deadline for submission of concept
proposals is Friday 30th March.
For the first time in this Call we
are also commissioning projects as follows:
- Replication or scale up of one successful
project from REEEP’s 3rd Call in 2005-6
- Two projects with countries or financial
institutions that are REEEP Partner Organisations
- Three projects that synthesise the experience
gained so far from REEEP projects

A
training for CEE journalists covering sustainable energy
Green Horizon and the Guardian Foundation
with REEEP's financial support will hold a training for journalists
covering sustainable energy. Participants will be journalists
from all the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and Turkey
- we are aiming to get one journalists per country. The training
will be part of REC's work as a REEEP regional secretariat
and will take place in Riga, Latvia, on October 25 - 28, 2006.

ERRA
EU Integration Working Group
9th June 2006, Budapest
The purpose of the meeting was to learn about
the Guarantees of Origin and about the Renewable Energy Certificate
System. Participants did have the opportunity to hear about
the history of certificate trading in Europe, the use of the
guarantees of origin, the Austrian, British and Australian
experience with trading of guarantees of origin.

The Second International Congress on Energy Efficiency
and Renewable Energy Sources: Financing Mechanisms for Implementation,

Sustainable
Energy Accelerator launched in Bulgaria
The European Business Council for Sustainable
Energy, together with local partner Via Expo, launched E5-SEA,
a REEEP funded project in Bulgaria. More than 100 participants
registered for the kick-off event, which took place on November
29, 2005 in Sofia. For more information contact Zdenek

co-financing for REEEP projects
Check out Defra's Environment for Europe fund as a potential
co-financing opportunity. The deadline for completed proposals

Power to Change
A
travelling exhibition on renewable energy and energy efficiency,
The Power to Change opened in conjunction with the launch of
the UK Presidency of the European Union on July 5, 2005 at the
Museum of Natural History in Budapest.
The exhibition has been displayed in Vienna, Bratislava, Pecs
(Hungary) and Bucharest since. Visit
