
REC Environmental Assessment Team:
Mission
The Environmental Assessment Team aims to enhance the integration
of environmental issues into decision making by extending the use
of environmental assessment, supporting reforms that improve transparency,
increasing accountability and effectiveness in environmental assessment
systems and searching for locally appropriate procedures rather then
copying the environmental assessment practices of other countries.
What we do
The team facilitates policy reforms through the application of
an extensive mix of the following tools:
- policy and institutional analyses of environmental impact assessment
(EIA) and strategic
environmental assessment (SEA) systems;
- guidance on good EIA and SEA practice in countries in transition;
- pilot projects that test and demonstrate innovative environmental
assessment practices;
and
- training and capacity development based on intra- and inter-regional
working exchanges
among EA professionals and experts.
How we do it
The team makes use of:
- comprehensive studies;
- concept development;
- pilot projects;
- promotional materials;
- regional workshops; and
- trainings and consultations.
