The Italian Ministry for the Environment and Territory organised under the Italian EU Presidency a Workshop on “Environmental Acquis in Central Europe and Balkan Region: a driving Force for Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation".

The event was held in Zagreb, October 4, 2003, in the framework of the First International Fair of Enviromental Protection, Eco Technologies and Municipal Equipments, and took advantage from the discussion started in July 2003 in Trieste with the workshop on the environmental challenges in the enlarged Europe and on the tools to integrate the environment into sectorial policies.

The conclusions of the Trieste meeting have raised the necessity for Acceding and Accession Countries to strengthen their administrative capacity and take advantage from the bilateral and multilateral cooperation to better finalize the process of transposition of the Acquis Communitaire.
The Zagreb workshop, chaired by the Executive director of the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe, Mrs. Marta Bonifert, intended to further stress the importance of both bilateral and international cooperation as a mean to accomplish the approximation to EU regulations and standards.

Representatives from Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovenia and Serbia/Montenegro were invited to present their experiences on bilateral and multilateral coperation in the environmental field, as well as proposals for further cooperation programmes aimed to facilitate their approximation to the European Union.

Representatives from small and medium sized Italian companies were also invited to attend the workshop.

Final Agenda of the workshop is now available for download (PDF file)
