Development Of Joint Environmental Investment Projects

Activities
Agricultural production is a common source of both point and non-point sources of pollution. ITF-funded projects in Poland and Romania aim to kerb the use of fertilisers and reduce groundwater pollution to ensure a sufficient supply of clean surface water and groundwater. Stress is placed on:

  • promotion of cleaner technologies and sustainable agricultural practices;
  • strengthening local research capabilities and extension services; and
  • the sharing of best practices from Italy.

The project will work with local farmers and agricultural engineers in a selected pilot area, and with local and national decision makers to support this shift.

The primary activities are:

  • development of a strategy for the introduction of more sustainable agricultural practices;
  • study visits for 120-150 farmers and agricultural engineers to Italy to see sustainable agricultural technologies and practices in use;
  • demonstration activities; and
  • evaluation of the current state of agriculture in the area targeted, including the various forces at work.

Projects
