This training focused on increasing understanding of selected EU environmental directives and tools to help local authorities achieve compliance with new legislation. The tools include strategic planning, financial planning, financial and economic analysis of environmental projects, and the logframe approach to project preparation. One workshop was carried out in each of the ten EU candidate countries in Central and Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia) in November-December 2001. The English-language version of the workshop materials is available here. The materials are available in Central and Eastern European languages from the REC country offices of the ten countries. The training was funded by EU PHARE as a part of the Regional Environmental Accession Project.
