The general objective of this grant programme is to strengthen the initial commitment towards EU accession of cities that won the 2001 editions of the City Towards EU Compliance Award. Specific objectives include: assisting the implementation of projects related to environmental aspects of EU accession; assisting the enforcement of environmental legislation applicable at the local level; and improving public awareness of EU environmental legislation, its costs and its benefits.
