Identification of Municipal Environmental Investments and Partnerships for EU Accession

The project will build the capacity of CEE local and regional authorities, utility companies and other organisations to identify and prepare high-quality environmental investment projects. The project aims to improve environmental management in CEE regions, towns, communities and institutions by increasing capacities to absorb funding available from the EU and other sources. The pilot stage of this project is implemented in 2003-2004 in Bulgaria, Poland, and Slovenia.

Another aim of the project is to identify and facilitate partnerships between Italian enterprises and CEE local/regional authorities for development of joint environmental investment projects. These may include technology transfer, equity investment, management and know-how support, and other activities.

Within the project the REC has organised a series of workshop-style trainings that aimed at improving the skills of Polish and Slovenian leaders and experts to identify and prepare concrete environmental investment projects in their areas, and cooperate with outside experts in the process. The events also gathered representatives of Italian enterprises and allowed for the review and discussion of opportunities for cooperation and partnership in the environmental sector in both beneficiary countries.

The project is supported by the Italian Ministry for the Environment and Territory. More information about its implementation, including project documentation, can be found on the website of the Italian Trust Fund.
