Public Participation
Information Society Technologies help improve electronic access to environmental information, the latter called for under the recently signed and soon to be ratified "Aarhus" ' Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decisionmaking and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters.' The Convention was signed in Denmark, June 1998 at the environmental ministerial conference. The Convention's implementation was reviewed during 6-7 December, 1999 at a workshop in Newcastle, UK and has also been examined by the REC's quarterly magazine, The Bulletin. Bulletin
The REC's Bulletin has taken a close look at the impact of Telematics in Central and Eastern Europe in light of the above activities. One article has examined those applications that could have played a key role in recent summers flooding of the CEE region. In the Autumn-Winter 98 issue, it carried a feature on the CAPE project, and most recently in October 1999 examined the status of the environmental information society.
