Internet in public administration and self-government is an international event scheduled to take place 25-6 March in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic. The conference aims to help introduce associations of municipalities in Central and Eastern Europe to the Information Society and related European Information Society networks.

Environmental Communication in the Information Society is an upcoming symposium on environmental informatics to be hosted in Vienna, Austria between Sept. 25-27, 2002. The conference will encompass environmental information systems; environmental communication, environmental themes; and applications and programmes.

The European Commission has published a "comparitive assessment of progress of the eEurope action plan." The study examines progress in implementing the eEurope action plan, and reviews European Union Internet use, e-commerce, related education, and online governance.

The World Bank presented a report entitled A Preliminary Strategy to Develop a Knowledge Economy in European Union Accession Countries at a conference in Paris on February 20-22 to promote the "knowledge economy" in EU candidate countries. The conference aimed to help the candidates develop national action plans in this area, as foreseen by the EU's e-Europe + 2003 Action Plan.
