  Environmental NGO Electronic Networking in South Eastern Europe
Italian Ministry Supports NGO Networks

The Italian Ministry for the Environmet and Territory has agreed to support the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe's  (REC) networking project in South Eastern Europe (SEE). While the basic concept and aims of the project remained unchanged, cooperation with L'Umana Dimora (3-page PDF file), an environmental association in Italy, added valuable expertise to the initiative.

The project ran from  May 1, 2003 until May 1, 2005. For a detailed description of activities carried out by the networks themselves, please see our activities page. Key international activities included:

Study tours

During 2003 a series of study tours was organised for network  members from SEE. The members visited various partner organisations in Italy. The REC handled preliminary activities in SEE, and L'Umana Dimora arranged activities in Italy.

Italian experts presented aspects of:

  • environmental NGO management;
  • Internet content development;
  • media and communications research;
  • fundraising; and
  • communication skills (media relations, online newspapers).

Study tours were evaluated and revised during the ongoing project activities. Qyarterly study tours involved eight groups of 10 people, and participants were selected by the NGO networks themselves. Please see our study tour and training page for more information.

Training courses

Study tours were replaced in 2004 by training courses, each focusing on one particular topic. Selected topics were based on priorities identified by the networks. The following training courses took place in Rome:
