Non-conventional
treatment
Septic tanks; anaerobic, facultative and aerobic lagoons;
artificial wetlands; and other technologies will be promoted to better
protect the Neretva River in Bosnia and Herzegovina under a new REC project.
The initiative aims to present non-conventional sewage treatment technologies
to municipalities around Mostar and other parts of the country. The first
of several training sessions took place in June. Other technologies promoted
by the project will include land application treatment systems, green
filters, peat filters and biofilm processes. A set of guidelines for such
technologies is under preparation. Norway’s Royal Ministry of Foreign
Affairs donated EUR 128,250 for the project.
