Survey launched of Balkan NGOs

A research group at the REC is inviting environmental NGOs from South Eastern Europe (SEE) to take part in a survey for the update of its regional NGO directory and to assess needs and problems of these groups. The research is part of a support project for environmental groups called SECTOR being carried out by the REC from 2006 to 2010 and funded by the Swedish International Development and Co-operation Agency (SIDA) (See page 14). NGOs that take part could benefit in two ways. First, it will enable the groups to be included in the updated directory, which lists NGOs working at both the national and regional levels.

The directory and its on-line version, comprising the most visited database on the REC's website, puts the group's name and contact details out to government officials, journalists, business people and others who are interested in the regional environmental movement. Second, it can help NGOs be involved in other support from the REC. Information gleaned from the questionnaire will help in preparation of other support given through the SECTOR programme, including organisational assessment; grants for community activities and urban sustainability; network developments and NGO training. These support activities are already under development and will be launched towards the end of 2006.
