Environmental Law Approximation Network
- At the 6th meeting of the Environmental Law Drafting Network of Senior Officials (ELDNSO), the network was newly christened as Environmental Law Approximation Network (ELAN) in order to mark the substantial progress made in adopting a strategic approach towards approximation and to provide an opportunity for stock taking and future projections.
- The ELDNSO network was created under Phase 1 of the project (2001-2003). Encompassing senior officials and legal experts from SEE ministries, the network currently boasts 45 members. Four network meetings have been held under the project so far. Based on personal contacts established during ELDNSO meetings, the network has proved to be an excellent tool for ensuring regular communication and cooperation between ministries.
- ELDNSO provides a forum for exchange of regional expertise, good practices, updates on legal developments in the countries and a platform for discussions on the development of a strategic approach to environmental law approximation in the SEE region.
- The ELAN e-mail list facilitates the exchange and circulation of relevant documents, laws and communications. It is a tool for active dialog and discussion among its members, and for sharing and disseminating outputs and information from legal assistance projects in the countries, including documents in local languages.
• The seventh and eighth ELAN meetings will take place under phase 3 of the project. The seventh meeting is tentatively scheduled for November 15-16, 2007 in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
