Regional
Meeting Reports
A regional meeting takes place every six months and is hosted
by the country temporarily presiding over the project. Six regional meetings
have taken place thus far:

Legal Experts
Bulgaria, Sofia 19-21 November 2003
The purposes of this meeting were as follows:
- Seminar on UNECE Conventions;
- 4th Joint Meeting of Network of Senior Officials
and Legal Experts;
- Review Final Report of Tulcea meeting;
- Finalize regional assessment;
- Discuss future of the AIMS project.
Objectives of the UNECE seminar:
- Raise awareness and understanding on interlinkages
between the three UNECE Conventions, and identify how coordinating the
implementation of the Conventions can help to achieve environmental
and sustainable development goals in the region;
- Identify regional implementation issues, in particular
such issues where two or three of the Conventions are involved; and
Identify national problems in the implementation of the Conventions.

The purposes of this meeting were as follows:
- Training on the Basel Convention;
- Kiev Ministerial Conference Update;
- 3rd Joint Meeting of Networks of Senior Officials
and Legal Experts;
- Review Final Report of Tirana meeting;
- Discuss latest version of regional assessment.
- Discuss opportunities for follow-up of AIMS project

Tirana
The purposes of this meeting were as follows:
- To present the results of the completed prioritisation
exercises and provide a list of maximum 5 concrete priorities identified
in consultation with the National Advisory Committees (NACs)
- To present and distribute the final version of the
country assessments and to discuss their findings and recommendations
- To present and discuss the Draft Regional Assessment
on Acceptance and Implementation of MEAs in SEE
- To hold network meetings of the Network of Senior MEA
Officials (National Focal Points) and Legal Experts
- To begin to plan specific, concrete activities on regional
and national level.

Borovec, Bulgaria, May-June 2002
The purposes of this meeting were as follows:
- to review proposed conclusions of the "Regional
Assessment of Acceptance and Implementation of MEAs in SEE";
- to exchange information on results of national MEA
assessments and national MEA priorities;
- to establish the Network of Senior MEA Officials (National
Focal Points);
- to host a second meeting of the Legal Experts Network;
and
- to begin to plan specific, concrete regional activities.

Busteni, Romania, October 2001
The main scope of the this meeting was finalisation of
the "Terms of Reference for Country Assessment of Acceptance and
Implementation of MEAs." The meeting was attended by MEA legal experts
