Public Transport Promotion in Central and Eastern Europe

Introduction

Cooperative, transboundary efforts to improve the environment are widely recognised as a politically neutral issue that can lead stability, social harmony and economic wellbeing in South Eastern Europe. Such endeavours are positive steps towards overcoming the legacy of previous conflicts by aiding the establishment and successful operation of cross-border networks in the region and establishing dialogue in the spirit of cooperation.

During the second meeting of the REReP Task Force in November 2000, the countries agreed that the negotiation and signing of cross-border cooperation agreements between countries can facilitate such joint work. This project is designed to facilitate the process of reaching international cooperation between the neighbouring SEE countries.

This project seeks to foster an appreciation of the value added through cooperation with neighbouring countries in the field of environment and establishes dialogue among SEE countries and territories. It assists the countries in defining the scope of their cross-border cooperation activities.
