Peace park moves
apace
The Balkans Peace Park (BPP) initiative continues to
make strides by attracting new partners, including NGOs, local governments
and international organisations. Recently, BPP partnered with several
Montenegrin NGOs: the Plav-based environmental sustainable development,
NGO TRITON, and its partner the Mountaineering Club; Podgorica-based NGO
the Centre for Sustainable Tourism and Montenegrin Adventures, and another
Podgorica-based group Green Home. New Albanian partners include the Environmental
Centre-Valbona. BPP has also been joined recently by the Austrian Development
Cooperation and the World Conservation Union-Green Belt Initiative. A
letter of good intent has been signed by a number of local government
authorities within the BPP. Following a worldwide tradition that began
with the creation of the Morokulia Peace Park between Norway and Sweden
in 1914, the BPP initiative seeks to foster international cooperation
and nature conservation by establishing a cross-border nature reserve
in the mountainous Balkan region. More information can be found at <www.balkanspeacepark.org>.
