Straightening the Drina

Hot spots singled out
Representatives from Balkan countries identified pilot projects dealing with environmental hot spots in South Eastern Europe and the Tisza River Basin. The projects were agreed to at a meeting May 12-14 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania organised by the Environment and Security Partnership (EnvSec) - an initiative of OSCE, UNDP, UNEP and NATO.

Police liberate landfill
After garbage accumulated in the streets for seven days, nearly 1,000 police officers in riot gear removed a road block that neighborhood protesters had set up outside an overflowing landfill in the Sofia suburb of Suhodol.
